Vinicius Jr 4th, Benzema 2nd… the 5 favorites for the Golden Boot of La Liga

La Liga has had some of the most prolific goalscorers in the history of the game. In the recent past, we have seen strikers like Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, David Villa and Radamel Falcao, to name but a few. -uns, light up the championship.

Even today, the Spanish Premier League has no shortage of world-class strikers. Some of Europe’s most experienced and established goalscorers currently play for some of Spain’s top clubs.

Karim Benzema won the La Liga Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season, scoring 27 goals in 32 appearances. He scored nine more goals than Iago Aspas, who finished second on the list of top scorers for the 2021-22 season.

This season, however, Benzema will face tough competition in the race for La Liga’s Golden Boot.

Without further ado, let’s take a look at the five favorites to win the La Liga Golden Boot.

#5 Raúl de Tomas (Espanyol)

Raul de Tomas is a dynamic striker who currently plays at Espanyol. He can play anywhere on the front line thanks to his technical qualities and versatility. Tomas is a Real Madrid academy product but after loans to Cordoba, Real Valladolid and Rayo Vallecano, he joined Benfica in 2019.

He joined Espanyol just six months later and has since established himself as their main goalscoring exit. The 27-year-old netted 17 La Liga goals last term and finished the campaign as the joint-third top scorer in the league.

He is excellent when he has the ball at his feet, and his dribbling and linking make him a great asset in the final third of the pitch. Tomas also seems to be at his peak and should have an even better season this time around.

#4 Vinicius Jr. (Real Madrid)

Vinicius Jr doubled down and had a break season last term. The potential was always there, but it was during the 2021-22 campaign that Vinicius Jr. transformed into one of the best young forwards in the game.

He’s been a menacing presence on the left wing for Real Madrid, beating defenders and linking up with Karim Benzema to great effect. Vinicius netted 17 goals and 10 assists in 32 La Liga appearances last season.

He is expected to improve on that record and become a Golden Boot contender this season.

#3 Iago Aspas (Celta Vigo)

RC Celta de Vigo v RCD Espanyol

Veteran striker Iago Aspas has consistently delivered for Celta Vigo in recent seasons. He was the second top scorer in the Spanish First Division in the 2021-22 season, with 18 goals in 37 appearances and six assists.

Aspas is expected to have another good season in terms of goals. Celta Vigo are establishing themselves as a mid-table side in La Liga and the Spanish striker’s contributions have helped their cause massively.

#2 Karim Benzema (Real Madrid)

Karim Benzema had arguably the best campaign of his career at individual level last season. His heroics helped Real Madrid win La Liga and the Champions League. The Frenchman was in unstoppable form as he showed off his sharp shots and scored and created goals for the fun of it.

Benzema ended the 2021-22 season as the Spanish league’s top scorer, with 27 goals to his name. The Real Madrid striker is now 34 but he seems to be playing at the peak of his ability. He is an early favorite to win the La Liga Golden Boot next season.

#1 Robert Lewandowski (Barcelona)

VfL Wolfsburg v FC Bayern Munich - Bundesliga

FC Barcelona did not have a major striker during the first half of the 2021-22 season. The arrival of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in January this year has definitely changed the game. The Gabon international has scored 11 goals in 17 La Liga appearances in the 2021-22 season.

However, he is now likely to become the club’s second striker now that they have agreed a deal to sign Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich. The Polish striker is expected to be announced as a new signing this week. Lewandowski has been Europe’s most prolific striker for a few seasons now.

He picked up his second consecutive European Golden Boot last season, scoring 35 goals in the 2021-22 Bundesliga season. Lewandowski is expected to replicate that form and light up La Liga with his elite goalscoring abilities this season.
