The transfer window has been open for a while. Some players have found shoes to fit. Others are still without a club at present. More
During each transfer window, many transfers and loans are made. Some clubs take advantage of this, while others (like Leicester) are more discreet. And with all this movement, some players are being pushed aside. Many find themselves without a contract, and it sometimes happens that the situation lasts until the end of the transfer window. Here is the typical team of players still free on this summer transfer window 2022.
Salvatore Sirigu, free as the air
The goalkeeper position is special. The candidates are numerous and the place is expensive. It is often difficult to have your place on the field (even for a goalkeeper like Keylor Navas), but also on the bench. Thus, many goalkeepers find themselves without a club.
Currently, some more or less known names are without contract. We can cite pell-mell Loris Karius, Sergio Romero, Vito Mannone or Luca Zidane. Above all, we find Salvatore Sirigu in this list. The former Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper is currently without a club.
After his time in the French capital, Sirigu played four seasons at Torino. Last summer, he decided to commit to a season at Genoa, which did not keep him. Despite his experience, the name of the Italian international goalkeeper comes up very little in transfer rumours. At 35, Salvatore Sirigu certainly wants to continue his career for a few more seasons. Some clubs looking for a goalkeeper (OGC Nice in France) could perhaps look into his case.
French-speaking defenders among free players in 2022
In the field, the number of free players is necessarily even greater. Defensive positions are no exception to the rule. There too, well-known players who have gone to big clubs are without a contract: Nicolas Nkoulou (passed by the two Olympics and Torino), Martin Caceres (former Juventus player), Domagoj Vida (vice-world champion 2018 with Croatia) or Faouzi Ghoulam and Kevin Malcuit (who left Naples).
For the right-back position of this typical team of free players in 2022, the choice can be Djibril Sidibé or Serge Aurier. The first left AS Monaco while the second is no longer linked to Villareal. The choice will fall on the French international Sidibé, who would have touches with Fulham and West Ham. Serge Aurier would be followed by Galatasaray, according to the team.
In the axis, the hinge is composed of Dan-Axel Zagadou and Jason Denayer. The first left Dortmund and the second decided not to extend to Olympique Lyonnais. There is no doubt that the French and the Belgian will find a club by the end of the transfer window.
Finally, for the left-back position, it’s hard not to attribute it to Marcelo. The Real Madrid legend hasn’t been retained by the club, much to the Brazilian’s regret. Still without a club, Marcelo would have the possibility of signing for Lazio, according to brand. The Spanish daily also recalls that Pablo Longoria wanted to lure Marcelo into his nets. This should not be the case given the recent arrival of Nuno Tavares.
A versatile midfielder
The heart of the game. Whether defensive or attacking midfielders, there are many qualities in free agent midfielders. Champion of France in 2021 with LOSC, Xeka left the Dogues this summer, as did his teammate Jérémy Pied. He ensures the role of sentinel of this typical team of free players in 2022.
In front, two Spanish artists can take over. Isco and Cesc Fabregas were also released by their respective clubs. The now ex-Real Madrid player was announced close to Sevilla FC several weeks ago. As for Cesc Fabregas, a surprising challenge awaits him in Italy.
In this case, Juan Mata or Aaron Ramsey could replace him. Hatem Ben Arfa? An end of career would be almost more possible at the present time.
An attack that smells like Serie A
In attack, there is also choice, whether on the wings or at the front. Some big names of free players in 2022 at the outposts are well known in the Italian championship. However, this is not the case for Adnan Januzaj. The Belgian winger, who revealed himself at Manchester United, will not stay at Real Sociedad. He was, however, a major player for the Spanish club, with 44 games played in all competitions, and an interesting attacking contribution. The 27-year-old could do a lot of service on his right side.
On the left, the top scorer in the history of one of Italy’s biggest clubs is free. Dries Mertens, Napoli’s top scorer ahead of legend Diego Maradona, will not continue the adventure with the Partenopei. If his friend Lorenzo Insigne landed on the side of Toronto FC, Mertens remains for the moment without a team. And as for Marcelo, Pablo Longoria has also tried to sign him for Olympique de Marseille, without success so far.
To occupy the position of center forward, there is the choice between three players with a strong character. Between the former Torino scorer Andrea Belotti, the sulphurous Diego Costa and the combative Edinson Cavani, the choice will fall on the latter. With a touch in La Liga, the former Napoli and PSG goleador is still chomping at the bit while waiting for this opportunity – or another – to materialize.
In this case, there is no shortage of attackers either: Keita Balde (Cagliari), the Frenchman Lys Mousset (Sheffield United) or the great Artem Dzyuba are also available. Notice to amateur clubs!
