The magic happens again: Union defeats Rangers and begins to dream of the Champions League (video)

This Champions League duel, the Union no longer even dared to dream of it. Two years after joining the Pro League, the Brussels club played their first European match in 58 years tonight, with a Champions League preliminary duel against Rangers.

The match began under intense pressure from Scotland, which was however fruitless, apart from a marvelous free kick saved by Moris. Lazare will then have fun, leaving a small revealing point of unionist intentions. Dominating, the Union will even see its dream continue, when Teddy Teuma took advantage of a mess to surprise the goalkeeper, causing the Louvain stadium, chosen to host this match, to capsize.

The start of the second period confirms the physiognomy of the match. The Union creates dangerous situations, especially via Adingra, whose header could have brought the second goal. Nieuwkoop, author of a great strike at ground level, saw the leather spinning right next to the goal. With 20 minutes to go, the Unionists still get three great consecutive opportunities, including a great save from the goalkeeper on a recovery from Vanzeir. But the VAR will then come to bless the fate of the Union, awarding a penalty for a light hand fault. Without shaking, Vanzeir made it 2-0.

Winner, the Union will have to go to Scotland next Tuesday, with the desire to conclude to face the winner of the duel between PSV and Monaco in the play-off.
