Serie A – The stakes of the last day

The major European championships will deliver their outcome this weekend and Serie A is still full of nice surprises. The headliner will be this ultimate title battle to follow. Indeed, Inter and AC Milan can still be champions. For this 38th and last day of the season, there will be action at all levels starting with the first place, then passing through the European places but also at the bottom of the classification.

Last year, Inter de Conte put an end to the domination of Juve in the Italian championship. The Interists were thus crowned champions after having delivered a very pleasant score to listen to throughout the year. This season, although they can still win the title, Lautaro Martinez’s teammates are no longer masters of their destiny. Second two points behind their eternal rival, they will have to win and hope that AC Milan loses to lift a new Scudetto. For the suspense, the two meetings are scheduled for Sunday at 6 p.m. For its part, Inter receives Sampdoria from Genoa. In this kind of meeting, evolving in front of your supporters is always like an advantage.

For AC Milan, the mission will be to bring back at least one point from their trip to Sassuolo. Indeed, in the event of a final tie between the two Milan clubs, it would be Giroud and company who would finish ahead, with the particular difference. The stakes are therefore high. The Milanese have here the opportunity to put an end to 11 years of drought in Serie A. In view of the season that the club is carrying out, it would not be undeserved.

PLACES STILL AT STAKE FOR EUROPE

For the Champions League, we will have to come back next year. Before the final meeting of the year, all access tickets to the UCL group stages have already been collected. AC Milan, Inter, Naples and Juventus are the lucky winners of this 2021-2022 financial year. Behind, we find the two flagship clubs of Rome. Lazio is 5th with 63 points ahead of Roma who have only 60. However, a victory in the last game of the year for the Romans could allow them to nab 5th position. Indeed, if Lazio loses and Rome wins, Mourinho’s men would go ahead thanks to this famous particular difference. However, Lazio faces at home a team from Hellas Verona which has nothing more to dispute. And meanwhile, Rome moves Friday on the lawn of Torino.

On paper, things appear more complicated on the side of José’s team. Knowing that they have more to lose than Lazio. A small dot behind them, we can observe that Fiorentina and Atalanta are standing in ambush. Once again, the programming is well done since their matches will take place at the same time on Saturday evening. Bergamo are playing against an affordable side from Empoli while Fiorentina will have to get rid of Juventus. Note that it would be a disappointment for Atalanta to play a season without European competition. Gasperini’s team has become accustomed to us recently, shone in the league and then splashed Europe with its talent. Fortunately, it is still possible to save the furniture.

A LITTLE FIGHT TO KNOW WHO WILL LEAVE SERIE A

The fates of Venezia and Genoa are already sealed. These two clubs will play in Serie B next year. But it remains to be seen who will accompany them after this last day of the season. For this, they are only two candidates. Cagliari, 18th with 29 points, is currently in the ejection seat. Ahead of them, Salernitana will need a win despite their 31 points. The goal difference being in favor of Cagliari, a draw would not be enough if they win. Moreover, they will move on the lawn of the red lantern while the teammates of Ribéry will receive Udinese. Everything will take place on Sunday at 9 p.m. as the final bouquet of this 2021-2022 season.

Finally, at the level of individual stats, the rankings will have very little chance of changing, at least for the first places. Among the scorers, Ciro Immobile is comfortably installed with his 27 achievements. To be overtaken, the Italian will have to be overtaken by Dusan Vlahovic who is three units behind him. The story is similar to the ranking of passers. Domenico Berardi dominates him with 14 assists and his closest pursuers have only 11. Knowing that Barella and Calhanoglu will have more important things to do than fight for this individual distinction, it is therefore very logical that we may think that this trophy is predestined for the Sassuolo player.

The table is set before this last Serie A weekend of the year and the players only have to settle down. It is clear that this J38 will be easier to digest for some depending on the turn of events.
