Review of the 2021-2022 season

The seasons follow one another and look alike for SC Bastia, despite all the efforts made by President Claude Ferrand. Indeed, the French club experienced a 2021-2022 financial year that did not meet the expectations and objectives set. SC Bastia finished in 12th place with a total of 46 points on the clock at the end of the last exercise. This rank was not enough to allow the club to aim for the top 3 which would be synonymous with a rise in Ligue 1. SC Bastia had a checkered season and lacked consistency. Losing momentum and looking for a new lease of life, SC Bastia will have to have an incredible season to hope to join the top 5.

The movements of the off-season

As has been the custom for several seasons at Bastia, club president Claude Ferrand is trying to find the ideal formula to allow his team to be more competitive. Departures and arrivals are therefore thought out with the greatest attention. Let’s take stock of the transfers operated by the club during this transfer window.

The Bastia club will rely on the following midfielders: Christophe Vincent, Anthony Roncaglia, Maguette Diongue, Sébastien Salles-Lamonge, Kylian Kaiboue, Tom Ducrocq and Amine Talal. To lead the Bastia attacks, coach Régis Brouard can count on Frank Magri, Migouel Alfarela, Kevin Sur, Anthony Robic and Benjamin Santelli.

Club ambitions and standings

Like most Ligue 2 clubs, the main objective before each start of the season is to aim for the top 3 places, to access the elite football division in France. But with such a reshuffled squad, it will certainly take some time for the coach to find his XI. If the recruits succeed in their acclimatization, SC Bastia could make a campaign on the scale of its expectations. But conversely, the club will have to give everything to ensure the maintenance in Ligue 2.

The player to watch

In this team where the collective is put forward more than individuality, it is difficult to take a player out of the lot. All are equal and fight for each other. But looking at last season, one player still seems to stand out. This is the 26-year-old midfielder, Sebastian Salles-Lamonge, author of 3 goals and 8 assists. He also finished the club’s best player last season ahead of Dominique Guidi and Julien Cardinal. He is therefore clearly the player to watch carefully this season on the Bastia side.

Calendar for the 2022-2023 season

During the first 3 days of the championship, Bastia will be opposed respectively to: Levallois, Niort and Grenoble. On behalf of the 6th day, the club will find St Etienne, a serious candidate for the title of champion. On November 22, 2022, Régis Brouard’s players will challenge the 4th of last season, Sochaux for the 15th day.

Bastia will respectively meet St Etienne on January 31, 2023 (21st day) and Paris FC on March 18, 2023 (28th day), matches counting for the return phases. Then, they will receive 2 times, Sochaux (29th day) and Annecy (30th day). Finally, on the final day, Bastia will be opposed to Metz for what will perhaps be a match for the maintenance or the rise in league 1.

SC Bastia will have a lot to do this season to stay in Ligue 2. Christophe Vincent’s teammates will have to show solidarity to aim for the top 10 this season. Reduced by departures, Bastia will rely on his duo Sébastian Salles-Lamonge – Benjamin Santelli to carry the team to the top of the rankings. For now, the main objective is to avoid at all costs a descent into the lower division.
