Football – PSG
Marco Verratti is without question a must for PSG. And as he has just celebrated his tenth birthday in Paris, le10sport.com looks back on his most memorable moments as a Paris Saint-Germain player.
His signature
On July 18, 2012, Marco Verratti landed at PSG in complete anonymity after having spent four seasons in Pescara in Serie B. At 19, the one who is nicknamed The Little Owl, dropped his bags in the capital in a club which had failed to win its first league title since 1994. Finally, in the shadow of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and with his innocent child’s head, Verratti slowly made his mark before entering the deep end in the Champions League.
His debut in the Champions League
On September 18, 2012, i.e. two months to the day after its signature at the Paris Saint Germain, Marco Verratti made his first steps in the Champions League against the Dynamo Kyiva few weeks before blowing out its 20th candle.
His first goal with PSG… against FC Barcelona
On September 30, 2014, the PSG found the heart rate Barcelona only a few months after the elimination of the capital club in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. During this group match with multiple twists, which ended in victory for the Paris Holy–German on the score of 3 goals to 2, Marco Verratti scored the first goal of his career at PSG as well as in the Champions League and all, from the head!
His first championship title
After the PSG QSI version failed just three points against Montpellier the previous season, Marco Verratti was able to put his hand on the first league title in Ligue 1 of the Paris Holy German since 1994, in 2012-2013. All this while having a 12 point lead over theOm, his eternal rival and dolphin on the season in question. For the media of PSG, Verratti returned to this first “not easy” title. “We fought every game to bring the three points home. I don’t remember any great matches won with a 4 or 5 goal difference. That’s why it was hard. Playing in Bastia, in Ajaccio… It didn’t play much football, but you had to win the right way or the wrong way. I remember the party we had afterwards in the streets of Paris, it was something I had never tried before. The first things are always the prettiest.”

His 8th championship title
the PSG won the 10th league title in its history this season. And at the same time, Marco Verratti celebrated with his teammates the 8th league title as a player of the PSG. A challenge which was not easy to meet according to him and always for the media of the PSG. “Sometimes from the outside people think it’s always easy, it’s always simple because Paris Saint-Germain win the game when they enter the pitch. The game against Lens was a game that I could never forget because it was the game where we won the championship”.
His rant in front of the supporters
Last May, during a meeting with Internet users from the Parisian, Marco Verratti delivered on his rant dating back a few weeks in relation to the attitude of the supporters who refused to encourage the players of Paris Saint-Germain, not being in line with the policy of the club and not appreciating the results . “Do I understand the anger of the supporters? (He blows) Sincerely? Before playing football, I was a Pescara fan. We never won a championship, we always struggled not to go down, but I had fun even if we almost always lost. I think their anger isn’t just about results. Madrid were the tell-tale of it all, but there were huge expectations at the start of the season. We said: Leonardo and Nasser (Al-Khelaïfi) bought great players, and today it’s their fault if we don’t succeed? It’s too easy… Fans have the right to whistle, but not during the match. During the match, we are all together. Sometimes it didn’t feel like playing at home anymore. It’s hard to understand. We need supporters, and there are other ways to convey our anger. We can discuss for example”.
Her 10th birthday in Paris
Finally, on July 18, 2022, Verratti celebrated his 10th candle as a player of the PSG. The opportunity for him to look back on the happiness that this adventure has been and continues to be for PSGTV. “Ten years in Paris is special. It’s something I never would have imagined. I had the opportunity to win a lot of trophies, and I hope to win even more in the future. I feel like home, when you stay 10 years in a club, it’s because you really love it (…) I feel happy and fulfilled. I get up in the morning and I’m happy to go to training, to see my teammates”.
