Koulibaly, Christensen, Rüdiger: Top 5 defensive recruits of the summer

If the summer transfer window is still far from over, has tried to rank the best recruitments of (central) defenders made so far by the big clubs in Europe. Waiting for the arrival of Matthijs de Ligt at Bayern.

5️⃣ Sven Botman (22, Netherlands)

Recruited by Newcastle from Losc for 30 million euros

Lisandro Martinez is the most expensive defender of the summer, after the transfer agreement between Ajax and Manchester United for 57 million euros, and pending the arrival of Matthijs de Ligt at Bayern. The 1.75m Argentine defender, chosen by Erik ten Hag, will have a lot to do to win in the Premier League. Botman, recruited by Newcastle, also comes from a secondary European championship (Ligue 1), but we at least know that he is a very high quality central defender. After two seasons with the Mastiffs, the Dutch rock can show that he is one of the best players in his position. To finally integrate the selection of Oranje?

4️⃣ Diego Carlos (29, Brazil)

Hired by Aston Villa for 40 million euros

Jules Koundé and Diego Carlos, central hinge partners in Seville, were among the best central defenders in La Liga and it was the former FC Nantes player who was sold first. Diego Carlos was in the sights of clubs playing in the Premier League, he finally joined Aston Villa (which paid the 40 million euros claimed in Andalusia). Steven Gerrard’s defense will definitely be stronger with the Brazilian, fierce in duels, on the ground and in the air. The presence of Boubacar Kamara in 6 will also be decisive. In the same style, Nayef Aguerd, who left Rennes for West Ham, may not be as convincing in PL.

3️⃣ Antonio Rüdiger (29, Germany)

Hired by Real Madrid after his contract ended at Chelsea

The opportunity was too good for Real Madrid to afford a new top-level central defender. Rüdiger has become quite an incredible defender at Chelsea, with his own style, and comes to offer a new option for the reigning Spanish and European champion. Carlo Ancelotti found a perfect duo with Eder Militao and David Alaba and can now blow one of the two or shift the Austrian to the left. Be careful though: the one who will prove to be the defensive leader will have to be used in his best position. If Alaba is essential, then Militao and Rüdiger will be in competition.

2️⃣ Andreas Christensen (26, Denmark)

Hired by FC Barcelona after the end of his contract at Chelsea

Barca need a new boss in defense for many years and the decline of Gerard Pique, little concerned with football. Christensen could quickly become one of the new leaders in Xavi’s roster. The Danish colossus (1.87 m) is not as rough as his now ex-teammate Rüdiger, even if he is unfailingly solid, he who also played in Gladbach (loaned for two seasons). It is mainly part defenders “à la Thiago Silva”these clear-sighted defenders in the face of opposing actions and who always defend standing or almost.

Kalidou Koulibaly (31, Senegal)

Recruited for 38 million euros by Chelsea from Napoli

After his Neapolitan epic (and his many rumors of leaving for top European clubs), the colossus Kalidou Koulibaly finally lands in Chelesa (which has therefore lost Rüdiger and Christensen). The Senegalese international is an intractable stopper who will make a perfect association with Thiago Silva under the orders of Thomas Tuchel. The Blues have strengthened with the native of the Vosges, even before the arrival of another central defender (Jules Koundé or Presnel Kimpembe). The 2021 Champions League winner can fully compete with Manchester City and Liverpool in the Premier League title race.
