France aims for a 3rd title in Bologna

Place in the final phase of the Volleyball Nations League in Bologna, which welcomes the 8 best teams of the 1time phase. Victorious in 2015 and 2017 and reigning Olympic champions, the France team is one of the favorites for the title, as is Italy at home and Poland, reigning world champion. Presentation and program of the final phase of the VNL 2022.

The France team as in 2015 and 2017?

Double winner of the VNL in 2015 and 2017, the French team arrives in Bologna with a single ambition, a 3th success in this competition. The new coach of the Olympic champions, Andrea Giani (who succeeded Laurent Tillie after the Olympics), took advantage of the 3 weekends of the 1time phase to rotate its workforce. The Italian coach was able to give playing time to certain substitutes in search of a place for the final phase but also and above all for the next world championships which will take place in Slovenia and Poland at the end of August.

With 3 defeats during the 1st phase, for 9 successes, the Olympic Champions proved to be solid during the 3 weekends of competition that they took them across the planet via Canada, the Philippines and Japan! Although the turnover was present, the quality of the game produced by the gold medalists in Tokyo was often present. Behind a big risk-taking in the service, the tricolor rear defense has as often made miseries to his opponents. Always carried by its star Earvin Ngapeth and with Antoine Brizard (elected best player in the world in 2021) at the wand, the blues made the Italian European champion bite the dust (3-0), as well as in Brazil (3 -0), Olympic champion in 2016. Although beaten by the reigning double world champion Poland, as well as by the USA (which had already beaten them in the opening match of the Olympics) and Argentina in the last match of this 1st phase of this VNL 2022, the French team will be among the favorites in Bologna for the final phase.

The favorites at the rendezvous

As for the other major volleyball nations, everyone responded, starting with the Italian European champions. Yet automatically qualified as the organizer of the final phase (Bologna), the Italy of the doublet Alessandro Michieletto / Simone Giannelli will be able to count on the fervor of the tifosis to try to win the VNL, a trophy which they have been missing for 22 years. . Also watch out for the Polish double world champion, who, although without his star Wilfredo Leon, can count on a group that has been playing together for several years. Brazil, record holder of victories in the competition with 9 successes, arrives in Italy without certainty. Destitute at the forefront with the retirement of Wallace de Souza and then Allan’s injury, the 2016 Olympic champions will be able to count on their maestro Bruno as well as a Lucarelli – Leal doublet in reception capable of blowing up all the defenses of the planet. The confrontation against the USA promises to be explosive! The Americans, and their fighting spirit, remain a team that is always hard to move with Micah Christenson at the helm and a duel with Bruno that will give sparks! What beautiful people in Bologna this week!
