After weeks of a long soap opera, the 24-year-old Portuguese midfielder arrives in Paris as Luis Campos’ fourth recruit. Not the last…
Renato Sanches at PSG, it’s done, it’s recorded, it’s signed. As announced, the 24-year-old Portuguese international midfielder (32 caps, 3 goals) is indeed leaving Lille for the capital club. “I’m sure I made the right choice by joining Paris Saint-Germain. This is the best project for me“, he says on PSGTV . We are talking about 15 M€ for the transfer fee which will be paid to the Mastiffs. One thing is certain: the 2016 European champion has signed up for the next five years in Paris. “He is a player who has qualities that others do not have (within the squad), a different player from Marco (Verratti) and Viti (Vininha), or Danilo Pereira“, explained, earlier this Thursday, Christophe Galtier in a press conference.
“He is a very explosive player, very hard-hitting, with impact. There was this opportunity on the market to take a player who knows the French championship and the very high level, he is an international (Portuguese). He will have to integrate, he arrives late and he has not played at all in preparation (with Lille). He will therefore be behind his partners. But he’s a totally different player in terms of explosiveness, ability to break lines down the middle and to catch shotsdefensively“, further detailed the successor of Mauricio Pochettino, three days before the match in Clermont on Saturday (9 p.m.), during the first day of Ligue 1.

The club makes every effort to have a very competitive workforce.
Former Benfica, Bayern and Swansea, Sanches, who has played 90 matches with Losc since 2019 (6 goals, 10 assists) and participated in the conquest of the title of champion of France 2021, will however not be the last to join the Paris-SG this summer. In any case, “Galette” wants even more after the arrivals of Vitinha, Hugo Ekitike and Nordi Mukiele, without forgetting the exercise of the option to buy Nuno Mendes. And this even if the ex-coach of ASSE, Lille and Nice does not want to leave in 2022-23 with too large a workforce. He has already said it: ideally, PSG should only have 21 outfield players.
Luis Campos, Antero Henrique (who is said to be in charge of sales) and company will therefore have to activate in the direction of departures, because Galtier is still waiting “three playersafter the arrivals of Vitinha, Hugo Ekitike, Nordi Mukiele and therefore Renato Sanches. Clear, crisp and precise. Refusing to say if it is a question of one element per line, the 55-year-old technician nevertheless provided these details: “Then there is the difficulty of the transfer window. I know that the president (Nasser Al-Khelaïfi) and the sports management with Luis Campos are working a lot on this. We are not here to stack players. I want a certain number of players in my squad, players who are very close to each other in terms of level to perform well throughout the season and create healthy competition. Will these three players arrive quickly, later, not at all? I do not know. I know that the club is doing everything to have a very competitive squad.”
A sturdy hoped for in midfield
Remember that in defense, the priority track is called Milan Skriniar (Inter). In attack, Paris-SG would have liked to sign Gianluca Scamacca from Sassuolo, but not on the conditions for which he left for West Ham. And in the middle? The Team paints a composite portrait of the ideal player in its edition of the day, “a bigger and stronger element than the profiles already there», «a taller and more powerful midfielder that would bring some size to the aerial game“. The priority target has not leaked, but our colleagues believe he is a player who is playing abroad after moving to Ligue 1. A priori, Seko Fofana (Lens) does not have the favors of Luis Campos.
On the departure side, Gini Wijnaldum should (very) quickly go to AS Roma. In fact, it’s only a matter of hours: he’s already in Italy. We are also talking about Leo Paredes at Juventus and Gana Gueye back at Everton, Thilo Kehrer at Seville. The Parisian “loft” is however substantial (Draxler, Kurzawa, Rafinha, Herrera) and some players who are not part of it can also be considered as potential starters (Icardi, Kalimuendo, Dina-Ebimbe…). In the meantime, place on the field. And the Parisians have the fangs, like their coach:We live for this, we are in lack of competition, we want to enter this championship and as best as possible“. It will be for Saturday evening at the Stade Gabriel-Montpied.
